The Mara Migration is an annual Maasai Mara event that attracts travelers from around the world. It is considered one of the seven natural wonders and showcases the movement of millions of wildebeests, antelopes, and gazelles from Tanzania’s Serengeti to the Maasai Mara reserve in Kenya.
The Migration is a vital part of the park’s ecosystem and a testament to the resilience and determination of the animals involved. The most ideal time you can witness this incredible event is from July to October. You can witness the Migration through various activities such as hot air balloon rides and guided safari tours. Whether you are a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or a first-time visitor, the Mara Migration is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
As you travel further south of Kenya, you’ll encounter the Maasai Mara, an iconic savannah that needs no introduction. This vast wilderness is home to the famous Wildebeest Migration, a natural spectacle that sees millions of animals cross the Mara River in search of fresh grazing grounds.
But the Maasai Mara is more than just a wildlife destination. It’s also a cultural hub where you can interact with the Maasai people and learn about their traditions and way of life. From the colourful clothing to rhythmic music and dance, the Maasai culture is a feast for the senses.
Beyond the Maasai Mara, you’ll find Amboseli National Park, a land of contrasts that offers some of the most spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Here, you’ll have the chance to see herds of elephants roam the plains, as well as lions, cheetahs, and other big cats.
As you continue your journey, you’ll encounter the coastal region of Kenya, where the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean meet pristine beaches and swaying palm trees. Here, you’ll find a rich history and culture, with ancient Swahili towns like Lamu and Malindi offering a glimpse into the past.
Whether you’re exploring the wilds of the Maasai Mara, delving into the history of the coastal towns, or simply soaking up the sun on a beach, Southern Kenya has something for everyone. So pack your bags, grab your camera, and get ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
Kenyan lakes offer a different kind of appeal to travelers. There are lakes that are a bird watchers’ paradise, lakes that are home to spectacular scenes of hot springs and geysers, lakes with islands, lakes that Kenya shares with other countries and lakes that have some of the most interesting existence stories.
